Steelport Knife Co. is a small company reintroducing heirloom American-forged 52100 carbon steel cutlery. Their knives feature performance, exceptional design, and handcrafted individuality. Each knife is manufactured and sharpened by hand in Portland, Oregon. The 10” bread knife cuts through both crusty loaves without damaging the interior as well as softer loaves. It is a great serrated slicer for cutting through BBQ meats and other hard crust foods. The wavy “reverse” serrations of this knife allows cutting through tough bread crusts and is also more gentle on other food products when used as a serrated slicer. The wavy serration is also less destructive to your cutting board than a standard pointy serration. The curved blade and 1” heel allows for a natural cutting motion and good knuckle clearance. A 10” blade is a perfect length for a bread knife – a too long blade can be unwieldy and a too short blade requires too much of a sawing motion. Steelport knife handles are contoured to accommodate any hand comfortably. The handles are made of Oregon Big Leaf Maple Burl, a locally sourced unique burl wood, which is stabilized with resin to make them impervious to moisture. These knives should be washed and dried by hand. Do not place them in a dishwasher. Carbon steel naturally develops a patina with use over. time. You may also use the Steelport Knife Care kit to care for your knives.
